Creftow Gallery is the premier gallery in Helston, Cornwall. Exhibiting over 20 artists works it was established in 1990 in the older part of this historic stannary town.
The Gallery was formed and is run by the members of the West Cornwall Art & Craft Group who lost their original premises in 1985 and took advantage of the closure of the furniture shop owned by AT & EM Bray to transform the three floors of this building into a beautiful, light and peaceful gallery.
The Gallery is run by the members for the members who are part of a co-operative of artists and crafts people. To become a memeber the standard of work must be of the highest quality and every applicant must go through a gruelling procedure before becoming a member or being rejected.
The co-op produces an eclectic array of beautifully crafted, high quality art work including paintings, sculptures, ceramics, metal work and textiles in an exciting range of styles from the detailed figurative to the entirely abstract.
The first two floors of the gallery are where you can view the artists work, with artists Paul Wordsworth, Ian ´Griff´ Griffiths and Carolle Blackwell happy for you to visit them in their working studios. When visiting the Creftow Gallery you can explore Helston, home of the Floral Dance. Helston was one of the ancient coinage towns where tin ingots were assayed and stamped to assess the duty to be paid to the Duke of Cornwall. Today you will find lots of small shops, bakeries, Coronation Park and the nearby RNAS Culdrose, Gweek Seal Sanctuary and Trevarno Gardens.
