A Half-Term Escape
3rd November 2008
That sinking feeling - a week off work and the children will be home on holiday too. Now don't get me wrong - I love my children - all five of them, but the weather forecast was for rain for most of the week.
In Cornwall we are lucky we have a wealth of fabulous food producers, many of whom love to show off how they do it. So, we began the week by a visit to Roskilly's known throughout Cornwall for their beautiful herds of Jersey cows that produce the milk that goes into their ice cream so with empty tummies we set off towards the Lizard Peninsula. Roskilly's is based just outside St Keverne in some of the most beautiful, unchanged landscape in south Cornwall. Arriving in the car park we were surrounded by fields full of the Jersey cows who all looked knowingly at us - almost like the advert where the cows want their milk back - they knew what we had come for.
Being large in number we were able to try a variety of flavours, each of us having a small mouthful of the others so, white chocolate and raspberry, sour cherry sorbet, dark chocolate, coconut and toffee were all deemed excellent. Their packaging is fun too and after a very enjoyable couple of hours wandering around the farm we headed back to the car.
While on the Lizard Peninsula we took the opportunity to visit Coverack a beautiful tucked away small fishing village, there are plenty of them along this coastline with stunning cliff top views out over the ocean. Just along from here we stopped off at Lizard Point where you can find Kynance Cove - known for its amazing colouful rocks which are formed from serpentine. After an almost excessive amount of fresh air and lack of computor games we headed home.
